We Survived!!!

We survived the bulk of our move today!!! I just have to say that hiring movers was the best decision and they were worth every penny! This morning when they were moving our bedroom furniture down the stairs, I flashed back to last summer when Dad, Mom and I hauled a dresser, amoire, nightstands and queen bed set up those winding stairs! It was exhausting! So today, watching the guys doing it instead of Matt and I put a smile on my face!! They did a great job and got all our furniture and many boxes moved in about 4 hours. We will have a few miscellaneous items to move tomorrow and a lot of unpacking, but we survived the hard part!!!

Pictures of the new house to come as soon as I regain my strength!

Our Crazy Weather!!!

We had been told when we were considering moving to Colorado how mild the winters are. When snow does come, we were told it often melts within a couple of days. For the most part, we've seen that happen. It definately much more mild weather than we had in Connecticut where the snow stays on the ground for months!

But this past week has really been strange... We had fairly normal weather to start the week. But then on Wednesday and Thursday it was nearly 70 degrees each day! It was heaven, although I have to admit that I didn't really leave the office much during the day. I just figured it might be too depressing to go out in that heavenly weather for a mere 45 minutes and then have to come back in again. But then we go from 70 degrees on Thursday to 30 degrees and major snow all day on Friday!!! It was the craziest thing I'd ever seen! A 40 degree difference in less than 24 hours! Thankfully my car was able to make it up the steep driveway we have at this house on Friday morning before the snow fell too heavily! We are looking forward to Spring kicking in!!!
Update: less than 48 hours after all the snowfall, we are back up to the mid-60s! CRAZY WEATHER!!!

A Visit from Mom & Dad

We just had a great visit from my Mom and Dad! They drove out from California, visiting some friends and checking out Santa Fe along the way. And bringing us the last of our wedding gifts that we had left behind.

One of the main reasons for them coming now was for the Oscars. My Mom and I have a standing deal that we always watch the Oscars together. Last year was a bit more of a challenge since I was living in Connecticut, but I made the flight out to California (and did some wedding planning) and we were able to keep the deal in place. So this year, I decided it was her turn to come to me so we could watch them together. Our Oscar Day routine of watching all the red carpet pre-show and then the show was great. I was even able to bribe my Dad into watching the pre-show by making him his new favorite crab empanadas.

During the week they were here Matt and I had to work, so they were on their own during the weekdays. I love that they just head out and entertain themselves while we are working. Makes me feel less guilty about not being able to hang out as much with them. During their first weekend here we headed up to Breckenridge which is a local ski resort. It's about 2 hours away and not only has 119 ski run (amazing to see!!) but has lots of cute shops and restaurants. On the drive to Breckenridge, we stopped at a visitor center and saw the Rocky Mountains in all their glory... too impressive for words!
During the week we met up with Matt's boss and his wife for dinner. Bill and Bette Storms met my parents when they helped me move us into house last summer. They got along great and really clicked. It was great catching up and enjoying a great meal.

This past weeend we decided to check out the Coors Brewery in Golden, CO. Such a cute town with lots of history. The Coors Brewery tour was great... especially the 3 free beers at the end. Admitally the 2 beers my Mom and I each consumed got to our heads a bit, so thankfully we had a bit late lunch afterwards! Although my Dad had 4 beers (used one of Mom's free beers) in the time it took us to drink 2! That's the most I've ever seen him drink... he just can't pass up anything free!! :) It was a great time and a nice day!

Inside the Brewery in front of about 50 kettlesThey left early this morning to make the two day trip back and will be back in time to babysit Shaye on Tuesday (thanks to Bethany for switching her day off this week so they could stay an extra day!!)

We had a great visit and look forward to more visits from them and other family and friends this summer!

On the Move Again!!!

Matt and I decided to look for a new rental home recently. Our current lease is up at the end of this month, although we could go month to month once it's up. But we decided we needed to find something cheaper and I felt that we needed a house with a more functional, "normal" layout. This house has been great... so unique and having a tree growing through the kitchen is always a conversation starter! But it has bedrooms on opposite sides of the house and none of the bathrooms are on the same level as the bedrooms. In planning for a family, I felt we needed a house with a more traditional floor plan... one with a bedroom near the master bedroom.

So we've only been looking for about a month and found a great place last week. It's 2700 sq ft and on a 19,000 sq ft lot!!! Huge backyard and the owners are ok with Matt having a veggie garden, so it works perfectly. The sad part is that our new landlords had to leave the house because their young son has a terminal neurological disease that has left him unable to walk anymore, so managing a house with 3 levels is not possible anymore. But we are excited to move to this house... and we are moving in just 2 1/2 weeks!!! So we will be very busy the next couple of weeks packing!

We have lots of room in the new house, so visitors welcome!!!

Finally...

So I decided to start a new blog. After starting a blog when I moved to Connecticut (http://guilfordgirl.blogspot.com/), I got behind once we moved to Colorado. Suddenly there was so much going on in our lives... we intereviewed for the job Matt accepted in Colorado Springs, moved 6 weeks later, flew to California several times for wedding planning, a baby shower, bridal shower, the birth of my niece and then finally the wedding and honeymoon in October! It was exhausing!!! I just couldn't motivate to write the blog to keep everyone updated.

But finally life has slowed down for us. Matt is loving his job at the William Storms Allergy Clinic (http://www.stormsallergy.com/) and his boss, Bill Storms, loves having him thankfully! I found a job and began it in January at Farm Credit (http://www.aglending.com/) working with the Correspondant Lending group. I'm learning a ton about the farming industry as well as learning about accounting. The people I work with are great and I'm glad to feel productive again!

So I will continue to update this blog about what is going on with Matt and I here in Colorado Springs. The blog title is credited to my Mom... she's so clever!
